April 1, 2016 – The Institute’s latest work evaluating the implementation and impact of Syracuse Truce, a focused deterrence initiative, was shared at the Research and Pictorial Showcase at the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, in Denver, Colorado. “Gangs, Groups, Networks, and Deterrence,” by Rob Worden, Sarah McLean, Andy Wheeler, and Kelly Becker, shows that Truce reduced gang-related shootings by about 40 percent in its first 17 months, and by more than 20 percent in its second 17 months.
